Berries always yield delicious jams with their juicy structure and mostly sweet but acidic taste. Blueberries are one of those berries. The origin of the blueberry is not known today but it wildly grows on almost every continent. Wild blueberries tend to be smaller but have more floral taste than cultivated blueberries. Either grown wildly or cultivated, blueberries are very rich in antioxidants and help neutralize free radicals that cause inflammation and cell damage in the body. Therefore, it is quite important for health to find a way to incorporate blueberries in our diet.

Consuming blueberry as jam is one effective way to add blueberry to our menu. Making jam, which requires long minutes of stirring in front of the hot stove, scares many people and they either choose to eat bottled jams or avoid eating jam. However, making jam at home gives you the chance to adjust the required sweetness level and the texture thickness.

So, how can you make jam at home easily? Absolutely in a bread maker. Bread makers not only make bread as their name suggests, but also make other foods such as jams. And, when you try the blueberry jam recipe below, you will see how easy it is to make jam in the bread maker and how good they are at making jam. Try the recipe and your blueberry jam is ready for the morning to spread over a peanut butter toast or to make a jam sandwich with buttermilk bread.

Directions

  • Open the top lid of the bread maker and remove the bread pan from the machine by pulling it upward.

  • Make sure the bread pan is clean and both kneading paddles are in place.

  • Add the blueberries in a large bowl and mash them roughly with a fork. You can also quickly puree the blueberries in a blender if you want a smoother jam.

  • Pour the mashed blueberries into the bread pan and add the remaining ingredients as well.

  • Put the bread pan back in the bread machine by pressing it down so that it clicks into its place, and close the lid.

  • Plug the bread machine into an outlet and press the "Power" button to turn the machine on.

  • Use the "Program" button to select the program #9 for the jam cycle.

  • Press the "Start" button to start the jam making cycle.

  • Your machine will let you know by making a beep sound once the blueberry jam is done. Open the bread machine at this point and remove the bread pan using a pot holder.

  • Transfer the jam into 2 sterilized 8-ounce jars and close the lids while the jam is still hot. You can close the jar’s lid after the jam cools down if you’d like to eat it soon.
