Why are my dinner rolls not fluffy?

If your dinner rolls are not fluffy, you may have added too much flour to the dough. To have fluffy dinner rolls, it is important to use fresh yeast and flour, warm water and egg, and give sufficient time to the dough for perfect leavening.

What is the difference between dinner rolls and slider buns?

Even though terminology may change depending on the region, there is not much difference between a dinner roll and a slider bun, but in general, dinner rolls are smaller in diameter than slider buns.

Tips for your bread maker:
Bread Machine Program: Dough (#6)
Delay Start Time Available: Yes
Color Option: No
Weight Option: No

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 2 tablespoons butter (at room temperature)

  • 1 egg (at room temperature)

  • 3¼ cups bread flour

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons instant dry yeast

Directions

  1. Open the lid of the bread maker and remove the pan from the machine by pulling it upward.

  2. Make sure the pan is clean and both kneading paddles are in place.

  3. Add all the ingredients to the bread pan in the order listed.

  4. Put the bread pan back in the bread machine, pressing it down so that it clicks into its place, and close the lid.

  5. Plug the bread machine into an outlet and press the “Power” button to turn the machine on.

  6. Use the “Program” button to select program #6 for the dough cycle.

  7. Press the “Start” button to start the dough-making cycle.

  8. The machine will let you know by making a beep sound once the dough-making cycle is finished. Open the lid at this time and remove the bread pan from the bread machine.

  9. Gently take the dough out of the bread pan and place it on a floured surface.

  10. Divide the dough into 15 equal pieces.

  11. Roll each piece into a ball, and then place it on a parchment-lined baking tray. You should place the dinner rolls about 2 inches apart on the tray.

  12. Cover the dinner rolls loosely with plastic wrap and let them rise for another 45 minutes.

  13. Turn on the oven to preheat by setting the temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  14. Remove the plastic wrap and put the tray into the oven. You can brush dinner rolls with whisked egg before baking, but this is optional.

  15. Bake the dinner rolls for 14 minutes until they are light golden brown.

  16. Once they are baked sufficiently, remove the dinner rolls from the oven, and brush them with some extra melted butter if you want.

  17. Your dinner rolls are ready.

  18. Enjoy!

You can make dinner rolls using whole wheat flour instead of white flour. To do so, use a little more than ¾ of the white flour, which equals almost 2¾ cups of whole wheat flour. However, you will find the exact amount for your desired fluffiness by experience.
