Here is how to use each preset to brew like a barista.
1: Brewing Delicate Teas (Green & White)
Delicate leaves are easily scorched by boiling water, which makes them taste bitter or astringent.
1. Select the "Green Tea" Preset (175°F / 80°C).
- Best for: Sencha, Matcha, Jasmine Green.
- Why: Green tea leaves are unoxidized and sensitive. This lower temperature coaxes out the sweet, grassy notes without the bitterness.
2. Select the "White Tea" Preset (185°F / 85°C).
- Best for: Silver Needle, White Peony.
- Why: White tea is slightly more processed than green but still requires a gentle touch. This setting is hot enough to extract flavor but cool enough to preserve the subtle floral aromas.
Brewing Robust Teas (Oolong, Black & Herbal)
These teas need higher heat to break down the leaves and release their full, rich body.
1. Select the "Oolong" Preset (195°F / 90°C).
- Best for: Tie Guan Yin, Da Hong Pao.
- Why: Oolong is sem-oxidized. It needs a temperature right in the middle—hotter than green tea, but not quite a rolling boil.
2. Select the "Black Tea" or "Boil" Preset (212°F / 100°C).
- Best for: Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Chai, Herbal Infusions (Peppermint, Chamomile).
- Why: Black teas and herbal tisanes (which aren't technically tea leaves) have tough cell structures. They require a full rolling boil to fully infuse the water.
Brewing Coffee (French Press & Pour Over)
1. Use the Coffee Preset (200°F / 93°C).
- Best for: French Press, Chemex, V60 Pour Over.
- Why: If you pour boiling water (212°F) directly onto coffee grounds, you burn the coffee, resulting in an acidic or burnt taste. The Luna’s 200°F setting is the "Goldilocks" temperature—perfect for smooth, rich coffee.
