Turkish coffee is traditionally made with water, and drunk without adding cream or milk. You can learn the traditional way of making Turkish coffee by following this link. However, it is also possible to make Turkish coffee with milk instead of water.

Plain black coffee does not have any sugar whereas milk contains some natural sugar that softens the bitterness of coffee taste. Milk also contains fat that helps create a creamier and filling texture in coffee. So, making Turkish coffee with milk still gives you a strong coffee but milder taste.

By the way, you can use the recipe below to make milky versions of Greek, Armenian, Serbian, Bosnian, Cypriot, and Arabic coffee, all made with the same method as Turkish coffee.

Let’s move on to the recipe below and enjoy Turkish coffee with milk!

Ingredients

  • 8 fl.oz. whole milk

  • 8 teaspoons ground coffee, extremely fine grind8 teaspoons ground coffee, extremely fine grind

  • Cezve or briki

  • Some sugar (optional)

Directions

  1. Add ground coffee and milk into the coffee pot, cezve or briki.

  2. Put it on the stove with low heat. If you are in a hurry, you can also make it on medium heat, but low heat is better.

  3. Gently stir the ground coffee and milk until they are fully combined.

  4. Wait until it rises to the rim. This will take 4-6 minutes, but you should not leave it alone on the stove to avoid any overflowing.

  5. As soon as it rises, take the coffee pot from the stove and pour it into the cups. You do not need a second rise when making Turkish coffee with milk since no foam develops as in regular Turkish coffee.

  6. Your Turkish coffee with milk is ready.

  7. Enjoy!
